Apr 18, 2022
What are Blind Boxes?
A Blind Box is a type of packaging that keeps its contents hidden from the buyer. These boxes are identical in every way and nobody, including the seller, knows which toy is inside. Blind Box or Blind Packaged means you don’t know which specific design from a series you might be receiving. The boxes and/or bags are sealed and the seller does not open them to reveal the contents.
Blind box toys have been a popular attraction for decades. The concept of blind box toys originated in Japan and is called Fukubukuro, which stands for “lucky bag” in Japanese. These lucky bags contain unknown random contents, similar to a blind box.
A blind box is a product sold in a box containing a random item from any one series. Like the hobby of collecting trading cards, you know what set you are buying, but you don’t know which one you are getting. This is the same concept with blind boxes.
Over the past couple of years, the trend has been blind boxes, with consumers purchasing a package from a brand containing unknown contents. This mystery element adds to the fun of purchasing a blind box.
In conclusion, a blind box, or “盲盒 [máng hé],” is colloquially understood as a product containing randomized rewards: the consumer of the product does not know what they will receive when they open the box.
